Education in New Zealand

Education in New Zealand

New Zealand's schools, colleges and universities are well regarded throughout the world. There are a lot of opportunities available to international students, great secondary school education, a large range of established English language schools and internationally recognised tertiary education providers.

Qualifications

For more information on the different qualifications that you can achieve in New Zealand from either secondary, tertiary or English language click here...

Foreign Student Fees

Most of the international students must pay foreign student fees to study in New Zealand, however some students are exempt as they are classed as domestic students. A domestic student is a student that is regarded as a New Zealander, either being a citizen of New Zealand or a person who holds a New Zealand residence permit.

The Education Act of 1989 provides a list of the people who the government regard as domestic students. To see the list please go to the Ministry of Education's website.

Pastoral Care of International Students

A Code of Practice is operated by the Ministry of Education in New Zealand that provides a framework for looking after international students. This covers things such as pastoral care, accommodation and provision of information.
