If you are skilled in a certain area of work, you may be able to qualify for permanent residence in New Zealand under the Skilled Migrant Category. - You are healthy - you need to have a doctor assess your health and fill in the medical and chest x-ray certificates for you and each member of your family coming to New Zealand
- You are of good character - if you are invited to apply for residence you will have to provide police certificates as evidence of good behavior for anyone over 17 years of age that will be included in your application
- You can meet a minimum standard of English - the requirements are different depending on whether you are the principal applicant or the non-principal applicant

Points System - What They Provide Points For |
The Immigration System provides points for:-
- Skilled Employment - This applies to work that requires specialist, technical or management expertise, and is relevant to your qualification or recognised work experience
- Work Experience - this applies to work experience that has given you transferable skills and that is relevant to your qualifications or skilled employment in New Zealand or has required or enabled you to gain specialist, technical or management expertise
- A Recognised Qualification - Points are awarded to people with qualifications such as trade certificates, diplomas, bachelor degrees and post-graduate qualifications. Some Level 3 trade qualifications that meet industry standards in certain occupations also qualify for points as they indicate your ability to gain skilled employment in New Zealand
- Age - New Zealand are looking for people who can make long-term contributions so they ask for the maximum age to be 55 years
- Close Family - You can qualify for more points if you have a close family member who is in New Zealand and is a New Zealand resident
